Bryan Adams boys’ basketball coach Juan Rivas is in his third year as the school’s athletic coordinator, a position he started in February 2023. He had served as the assistant athletic coordinator since 2018.
Rivas, now in his 17th year in Dallas ISD, continues to coach the boys’ basketball team. He improved the team’s win total each of his first five seasons and guided the team to the playoffs in 2017-2018 for the first time since the 2011-2012 season. That team won a bi-district championship for the first time since 2002. The team’s 20 wins in 2018-2019 were the most at Bryan Adams since the 1990s. The 2019-2020 team also qualified for the playoffs.
Prior to coming to Bryan Adams, Rivas was an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Woodrow Wilson, his high school alma mater, from 2009-2015. Rivas graduated from Woodrow Wilson in 2003 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible and secondary education from Dallas Christian College in 2008. Rivas played basketball and was a member of the track & field team at Woodrow Wilson and played basketball in college.
Rivas is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, the Dallas Coaches Association, and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Rivas served on the board of the Dallas Coaches Association through 2025.
Coach Rivas was named Dallas ISD Assistant Athletic Coordinator Of The Year in 2020-2021 and was recently named Dallas ISD Athletic Coordinator Of The Year for the 2024-2025 school year.
Rivas and his wife Claudia have four children: Elian (24), Leanna (19), Leaeli (13), and Juan Jr. (10).
