Marcus Gates

Marcus Gates has 28 years of high school coaching experience and is entering his 13th season as head football coach at James Madison High School. Gates is the former defensive coordinator and was instrumental in coordinating one of the top-ranked defenses in Texas 3A football. He helped lead the Trojans to consecutive playoff appearances.

With Gates at the helm, the Trojans have made eight playoff appearances with three bi-district championships. He leads with a “hard-work-pays-off” philosophy teaming with the Trojans’ coaching staff to instill character, discipline, persistence, and commitment into young men and women; values that will carry with them into adulthood.

Gates graduated from Texas A&M University at Commerce with a Bachelor of Science degree. Gates also received his master’s degree in educational leadership. He is a former college defensive back standout where he earned all-conference and All-America honors.

He also had a stint in the Canadian Football League.
