Michael Johnson is in his first year as the athletic coordinator and head football coach at W.W. Samuell High School. He returns to a head coaching roll for the first time since an 11-year tenure as the head football coach at Bishop Dunne Catholic School in Dallas (2009-2020).

He holds a 76-52 career record as a head coach, and his Bishop Dunne teams won state championships in 2014 and 2018 and finished as the state runner up in 2015 and 2016. The Falcons claimed district championships in 2014, 2015, and 2018. In 2014, he was named the Private School Coach of the Year by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. Johnson was the defensive assistant coach at Bishop Dunne (2006-2008) before becoming the head coach in 2009.

Johnson comes to Pleasant Grove and Dallas ISD from Duncanville High School, where he was a defensive assistant coach from 2024-2025. He was the defensive coordinator at Frisco Memorial High School from 2022-2024, the associate head football coach and defensive coordinator at Ferris High School from 2021-2022, and the defensive coordinator at Groesbeck High School from 2020-2021.

A total of 180 players he coached earned scholarship offers from Division I and Division II schools, and 70 players earned all-state academic honors. Throughout his career, his teams have made 16 playoff appearances.

A 2000 graduate of Bishop Dunne High School, Johnson went on to attend Louisiana Tech University, where he played football from 2000-2004. The four-year letterman was a three-year starter at strong or free safety. He made 38 starts for the Bulldogs and won the Western Athletic Conference championship in 2001. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the school in 2004.

Johnson is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association.
