O.J. Abanishe

Olabaniji (O.J.) Abanishe is in his 27th year of coaching football and his ninth year as a head coach. Abanishe enters his sixth season as the athletic coordinator and head football coach at Sunset High School. He was the Dallas ISD Athletic Coordinator of the Year during the 2023-2024 school year and teacher of the year at Trimble Tech for the 2018-2019 school year.

Abanishe previously was the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Trimble Tech High School, which earned back-to-back playoff berths. Prior to joining the high school ranks, Abanishe was the head coach of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, where he brought back a nonexistent football program. Prior to Lincoln University, Abanishe was the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Langston University and led the Lions to the 2005 Central State Football League (CSFL) conference championship.

While at Langston, his offense was consistently ranked in the top 20 in the nation. In 2001, Abanishe served as the offensive line coach at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. He also served as the offensive coordinator at Lane College. In 2009, Abanishe took part in the NCAA Expert Coaches Academy.

Abanishe is a 1998 graduate of Langston University and holds an MED from Grand Canyon University (2024). He is the proud father of Kai (18) and Olaide (15).
