Hall of Fame Criteria

Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame

The Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame was founded in 2017 to recognize and preserve the heritage of high school athletics in Dallas ISD, to keep alive their tradition and spirit, and to each year honor those persons who through distinguished achievement, have excelled in one or more high school athletic programs.

Hall of Fame nominees are individuals who have raised the level of awareness in high school athletics through their distinguished achievement and excellence in one or more high school athletic programs sponsored by Dallas ISD or through their contributions to high school athletics in other fields of work. These individuals may include student-athletes, coaches, administrators, contest officials, media personnel, sports medicine personnel, athletic trainers, or distinguished volunteers. Nominees may be retired from their field, or still be active. Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character.

The categories of student-athlete, coach, and contributor are included on the nomination form for expediency in understanding the primary area in which an individual is to be considered for his or her achievements in high school athletics. These groupings are for screening purposes only and to assist those in making the nominations in understanding the type of information required. Once nominees are inducted, they are not categorized, but all are recognized as members of the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame.

Explanation of categories is as follows:

  • A student-athlete is a former student participant who is being nominated for his or her achievements in Dallas ISD athletics. To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must have graduated from a current Dallas ISD high school 10 or more years ago. Student-athletes will be considered primarily for their achievements as a high school student-athlete. Consideration will be given to their achievements at the college or professional levels. Character during and after their high school years, however, will be a major consideration. Candidate must not be a member of the Selection Committee when considered for induction into the Hall of Fame and must be free of felony violations of the law. Nominees will be considered posthumously.
  • A coach will be considered primarily for his or her achievements in senior high school coaching. Secondary consideration will be given to the nominee's achievements as a collegiate or professional coach. The nominee's character both in high school and other levels will also receive consideration. To be eligible for nomination as a coach, the individual must have served as a Dallas ISD high school coach for a minimum of 5 years. Candidate must not be a member of the Selection Committee when considered for induction into the Hall of Fame and must be free of felony violations of the law. Nominees will be considered.
  • A contributor is an individual who has made contributions to Dallas ISD high school athletics in some capacity other than those previously mentioned, including such areas as sports media, sports medicine, sports official, sports announcer, athletic director/coordinator, administrator, or supporter. A nominee will be considered primarily on the merits of his or her contributions to high school athletics and must have been involved in high school athletics for a minimum of 10 years. The nominee's character will also receive consideration. Candidate must not be a member of the Selection Committee when considered for induction into the Hall of Fame and must be free of felony violations of the law. Nominees will be considered

All nominees will be judged on their significant and/or long-term contributions to Dallas ISD athletics. While many have served their schools or areas over a long and distinguished career, their accomplishments must have been worthy of district-wide recognition for them to be considered. Longevity, without meaningful impact, does not constitute appropriate credentials for Hall of Fame consideration. The Dallas ISD Hall of Fame Committee may consider a nominee’s total record of contribution(s) to high school athletics in determining eligibility for candidacy and not just his/her record of service in the category in which the nomination is made. The Committee also may waive the minimum years of service requirement when exceptional circumstances such as injury, illness, or death have prevented an otherwise worthy candidate from meeting the requirement.
