Safety & Security
Students Required to Display Current Student ID Badge
To enhance safety at athletic events, Dallas ISD now requires all students attending district-hosted games without a parent, guardian, or other adult responsible for the student to present a current student badge for entry. The badge must be for the Dallas ISD school that is competing in the athletic event. This requirement also applies to visiting non-Dallas ISD schools.
Students without a school-issued ID, and Dallas ISD students from other high schools, will not be permitted to enter the event unless accompanied by an adult. Safety and security personnel will be on-site to assist students who need to contact a parent or guardian for a ride home.
The new protocol does not apply to students participating in the athletic event as competitors or a related student activity group as long as they are accompanied by their coach or sponsor.
This requirement applies to all district multi-use facilities, including natatoriums, gymnasiums, and stadiums.
Dallas ISD Enforces Safety & Security Guidelines at Stadiums and Athletic Events
To ensure a safe athletics season, the following safety guidelines will be enforced at District multi-use facilities and events.
Guests will not be allowed entrance into games, gymnasiums, or stadiums wearing specific clothing, including:
-
Sleeveless T-shirts (males)
-
Garments displaying explicit writings or drawings
-
Sexually revealing garments (females)
-
Do-rags, solid red or blue headscarves, or beads
At the discretion of District staff, clothing that appears to be gang apparel will not be allowed into games or events on District property, including parking lots.
Additionally:
-
If a verbal or physical altercation disrupts a District-sanctioned event, appropriate enforcement actions may be taken, up to and including arrests.
-
All contraband, including alcohol, tobacco products, and weapons of any kind are prohibited on District property and parking lots.
-
Anyone driving a motor vehicle on District property must have a valid driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance with them.
-
Spectators who will be waiting for transportation from the stadium or event should arrange for transportation at least 30 minutes before the conclusion of the event.
-
Students must make sure their transportation has arrived before the event ends.
-
Only those individuals picking up spectators at the end of a game or event will be allowed into the facility and/or school parking lot.
-
After a parking lot has been cleared of all vehicles, spectators who remain on the premises will be directed to wait outside the parking lot area and/or stadium for their transportation. Anyone found violating any of the above rules may be escorted and asked to leave the premises.
-
Any student found violating any of the above rules is subject to the appropriate disciplinary measures issued by their school administration.
-
In the event of an emergency, follow directions given by emergency responders, District staff, and the public broadcast system.
-
If something raises your concern for any reason, let us know so we can investigate the situation right away. We encourage that if you See Something, Say Something.
LIGHTNING SAFETY TIPS
Advanced planning is the single most important means to achieve lightning safety. Guidelines have been instituted with safeguards against the hazards of potential lightning risks and severe weather. The multi-use facilities are equipped with lightning warning systems.
SEEK SHELTER when horns sound solid tone & strobe light is on
RESUME ACTIVITY when horns sound intermittent tone & strobe light is off
SPECTATOR SAFETY: If you are not at the multi-use facility, do the following:
-
If you hear it (thunder), clear it!
-
If you see it (lightning), flee it!
At the first signs of lightning or thunder, leave the ball field. Go to your vehicle to take shelter with your windows rolled up. Do not touch the metal of the vehicle during the lightning storm.
AVOID:
-
Metal fences
-
Small/unprotected shelters
-
Bleachers
-
Open areas
-
High places/trees
-
Touching the metal of a vehicle
SEEK:
-
Large buildings
-
Lightning shelters
-
Any building normally occupied or frequently used by people
-
Any vehicle with a hard metal roof (not a convertible) and rolled-up windows
Wait 30 minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder before you leave shelter. Game officials will signal a resumption of activities.
IF LIGHTNING STRIKES NEARBY, YOU SHOULD:
-
Crouch down with feet together
-
Place hands on ears to minimize hearing damage
FIRST AID
-
People who have been struck by lightning do not carry an electrical charge. Therefore, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is safe for the responder.
-
If possible, an injured person should be moved to a safer location before starting CPR. Prompt, aggressive CPR has been highly effective for the survival of victims of lightning strikes.
-
Use first aid procedures on a lightning victim if you are qualified to do so. Call 911 or send for help immediately.
