My child is currently on a transfer. Do I need to re-apply to stay at the same school?
No. You can remain on a transfer permission up to the highest-grade offered at the school without re-applying. If you are applying to a NEW school, you will need to apply for a transfer. Not all schools will be available for a transfer.
How can I apply for a transfer to another neighborhood school?
You can apply online at: Student Transfers or at the following site: Choosedallasisd The application window opens November 1st until January 31st. Not all schools will be available for a transfer.
How soon will I know if my transfer application was approved?
Parents will be notified of any approvals beginning March 1st. If you are sent a seat offer, you will have 10 days to respond to either accept or decline the approval.
I am interested in applying for a transfer and to specialty schools. Can I apply to more than one school or program?
Yes. The new "one stop" application system allows parents to choose up to five (5) different schools or programs with a maximum of two (2) Magnet schools. You will be able to rank each school in order of your preference, with number #1 being your preferred school. Ranking will be important. You will have up until January 31st before midnight to edit your application or change the order of your ranking.
Can I apply for a current year transfer?
Yes. Some campuses may be able to approve transfer requests during a school year, if they still have space for the requested grade level or if they are able to accommodate the request. Parents may apply at Choosedallasisd Be sure to select the correct school year from the drop-down selection. Not all schools are available.
My child attends pre-k 4 in Dallas ISD, but does not attend his assigned neighborhood school. Do I need to apply for a transfer, so they can remain at the school for Kindergarten?
Yes. Transfers are for grades K to 12th. You will need to apply for a transfer, so the student may remain at the school.
Can transfer permissions be revoked?
Yes. District policy allows the campus to revoke transfer permissions based on the student’s poor academic performance, low attendance, and/or misbehavior. In addition, a revocation can happen due to changes in availability of space and in the availability of instructional staff. Some situations like a safety issue may require an immediate revocation of the transfer permission.
