National School Lunch Week
National School Lunch Week was declared in 1962 to promote the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Created in 1946, the NSLP was designed to provide nutritious meals to children from low-income families who might not otherwise have access to a daily meal. Today, the NSLP ensures the health and well-being of all public school students, improves academic performance by giving students the nutrition they need for academic success. It has been shown that a healthy, nutritious lunch can improve academic performance, and that’s why a healthy midday meal is crucial to growing children.
During this week long celebration, Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services will celebrate with special treats, events, activities, and much more, with the goal of encouraging students to eat a healthy lunch at school.

High School Student Activities
All high school students are encouraged to participate in the Dallas ISD Lunch Week Challenge, designed to celebrate nutritious and delicious school meals. Throughout the week, students can enjoy a variety of tasty, nutrient-packed menu options that highlight the benefits of balanced eating. By scanning a QR code, they can also complete a National School Lunch Week survey to provide feedback on their lunch experience. As an added incentive, students who participate in the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Apple AirPods. The week will conclude with a celebratory lunch, offering a final opportunity to submit surveys and win prizes.
