School Breakfast Week
What is School Breakfast Week?
Established in 1989, School Breakfast Week (SBW) celebrates how school breakfasts can prepare students for daily success. By observing this special week every year, we’re encouraging all K-12 schools to recognize the importance of a healthy start to the day with breakfast to fuel children’s academic success.
Today, the School Breakfast Program ensures the health and well-being of all public school students and improves academic performance by giving students the nutrition they need for academic success. It has been shown that a healthy, nutritious breakfast can improve academic performance, and that’s why a healthy meal at the beginning of the day is crucial to growing children.
During this weeklong celebration, Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services will celebrate with special menus, events, activities, and much more, with the goal of encouraging students to eat a healthy breakfast at school.
Elementary and Middle School Activities
During National School Breakfast Week, Dallas ISD is excited to host an art contest for elementary and middle school students, encouraging them to showcase the importance of a healthy breakfast through creativity. Winning entries will be displayed in school cafeterias and featured in the FCNS newsletter and at the Maria Luna Facility. This initiative engages students in understanding the value of nutritious morning meals while celebrating their artistic talents!
High School Activities
For National School Breakfast Week, high school students can participate in a survey contest to share their thoughts on school breakfast and suggest new menu ideas. Participants will have a chance to win prizes, and the feedback will help shape future meal options.
