Truancy Official Attendance Notice/Attendance Pledge (GAAP)
The Dallas Independent School District is committed to partnering with parents to ensure our students' success. At the beginning of the year, Dallas ISD (Dallas Independent School District) requires parents and guardians to acknowledge the BEGINNING-OF-THE-YEAR notices during the SchoolMint enrollment process. This notice informs families about Texas's compulsory attendance laws, cautions against unexcused absences at the beginning of the school year and emphasizes the important connection between regular attendance and academic success.
The Texas State Compulsory Attendance Law, Section 25.085, mandates that all enrolled students must attend school on time, for the entire day, every day that school is in session. If a student misses school without a valid excuse for 10 or more days, or parts of days, within a six-month period, Texas state law requires school districts to initiate court proceedings against the parents or guardians and/or the student.
The GAAP (General Attendance Action Plan) is a program designed to improve attendance for students who have accumulated excessive unexcused absences during the school year. The Dallas Independent School District genuinely hopes that attendance will not become an issue for any student or parent. Therefore, the district has implemented GAAP as a preventive measure to address attendance concerns early, before unexcused absences lead to truancy issues. When the GAAP is activated, parents will be notified. If there are no concerns about attendance, the plan will remain inactive.
