Why Reading Academies?
By developing skilled and effective educators, we ensure students have access to high quality reading and writing instruction, thereby positively impacting student literacy achievement. Reading Academies, therefore:
Are a transformative opportunity to improve teacher and student outcomes.
Play a central role on our "Path to 60" Board Goals - 60% of students at 'meets' or above in 3rd grade STAAR Reading by 2025.
Provide teachers and administrators with the scientifically-based tools and strategies to mitigate learning loss.
House Bill 3 (HB3)
House Bill 3 of the 2019 Texas Legislative Session was one of the most comprehensive reforms for public education in Texas. A key feature of House Bill 3 requires all kindergarten through third-grade teachers and elementary principals to complete the Texas Reading Academies before the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
