H-1B Visa Information
Dallas Independent School District will sponsor H1B visas for the 2024-2025 school year for Elementary Bilingual (English/Spanish) teachers.
To be considered for an H-1B visa you must have:
- A valid Texas teaching certificate and
- A job offer from one of our campuses or having received an Early Contract from our Recruitment Team
For any candidate to be considered for an H-1B visa, you will have to provide documentation that you meet the following requirements:
1st Minimum Requirement – English Language Proficiency
- If you have a degree (BA, Masters, Ph.D.) within the continental U.S., you do not need to take the TOEFL. If you did not graduate from a university within the continental U.S., you must prove your English proficiency by passing the TOEFL iBT.
- Visit the TEA website to review the list of countries exempt from TOEFL.
- The State of Texas requires the following scores on each section of the TOEFL ibt exam to prove you are proficient in the English language.
- Speaking – 24
- Listening – 22
- Reading – 22
- Writing – 21
2nd Minimum Requirement – Credentials
- You will need to have your university documents (diploma/título and transcripts) translated and evaluated. Visit Foreign Credential Evaluation Services for additional information.
3rd Minimum Requirement – Certification
- You will need to have a valid Texas teaching certificate.
- If you are a certified teacher in your home country and have a U.S. Social Security Number, for more information please visit Certification Based on Credentials from another Country
- If you are not currently certified as a teacher in your country or certified in your country without a U.S. Social Security Number, you will need to be accepted into an alternative certification program and be eligible for the probationary/intern certificate.

Once you have met the minimum requirements above, you will be able to obtain an interview with a Dallas ISD recruiter. If an Early Contract is obtained, your case will be forwarded to the Visa Team to assess eligibility for an H-1B visa process.
