Selection of Library Materials
Dallas ISD is committed to maintaining a high-quality library collection that supports student learning, reflects community values, and is aligned to district academic goals. This page outlines how books are selected, reviewed, and how parents can stay informed and involved in their child’s library journey.
We follow all applicable state laws, including Senate Bill 13, while going above and beyond to ensure transparency and collaboration with families.

Sora Parental Controls
Parents and guardians can now manage what their child reads directly in Sora with the new Parental Controls feature. Once enabled, you can create a secure PIN to access Parent Mode, where you can lock or unlock specific titles in your child’s account. Be sure to store your PIN in a safe place — you’ll need it whenever you make changes.
How Books Are Selected
Every title in our libraries undergoes a careful selection process. Our Library Media Services team reviews books based on curriculum relevance, student interest, age-appropriateness, and published professional reviews.
New titles are posted publicly for 30 days before being approved and added to our district collection.
Click the graphic below to see the process—from title selection to student access.
Titles Currently Under Review
As part of our commitment to transparency, all new titles being considered for our district libraries are posted for a 30-day public review. Families and community members can view the list and provide feedback to their campus librarian or email us at libraryservices@dallasisd.org.
Suggest a Book for Review
Parents, staff, and community members may recommend new titles for consideration. All recommendations go through our established review and vetting process.
