Teacher Education Pathway Partnerships

Industry, Non-Profit, and University partners support P-TECH/ECHS teacher education students’ career exposure, exploration, skill development, and experience. Students will have experienced workplace tours, job shadowing, skills workshops, guest speakers, digital badging, portfolio preparation, mentoring, and internships by senior year.

 

Spotlighted Teacher Education Partnership Activities

 Dallas ISD Human Capital Management Teacher Job Fair

P-TECH Teacher Education pathway students volunteered at the Dallas ISD Human Capital Management Job Fair, helping to register job seekers and support the event. This volunteer activity also gave them an inside look at the process future teachers go through when interviewing for a position for Dallas ISD. 

 

UNT Dallas Emerging Teacher Institute Bilingual Barrio Bus Tour

UNT Dallas Emerging Teacher Institute Bilingual Barrio Bus Tour brought students to the historical origins of bilingual education in Dallas ISD. Students hear the oral history from those who lived English-only education, Bilingual education, and school integration experiences. And, they reflected on the role of education and educators in creating opportunities for the next generation.

Texas Tech University Sponsored TAFE (Texas Association of Future Teachers) Club at Samuell ECHS

After completing an associate degree from Dallas College, Texas Tech University’s College of Education offers the TechTeach program, an accelerated teaching program. They have partnered with several Dallas ISD P-TECH/ECHS programs. Students can graduate with a bachelor’s degree, a TEA teaching certificate and real classroom experience. Once a bachelor's degree is complete and students have signed a letter of intent, they are welcomed back to teach in Dallas ISD.

 

 

The Dallas Zoo brought a virtual workshop highlighting the importance of nonverbal communication in the workplace to Bryan Adams P-TECH

Whether you're talking to a colleague, your pet, or in the case of a Dallas Zoo employee, a 2-ton elephant, nonverbal communication is always on display.

Bryan Adams P-TECH students joined Marty Copeland of Dallas Zoo for a virtual workshop about nonverbal communication. Marty utilized some animalistic examples to expose students to different types of nonverbal communication. Best practices to improve nonverbal communication, both in-person and virtually, were also shared. As we have continued to shift into the virtual world, nonverbal communication is on display more than ever. Industry partner-guided lessons like these continue to assist our P-TECH students with gaining insight into best practices in a modern professional environment.

 

In partnership with United To Learn, W.T. White B-TECH students tutor Caillet Elementary students

Students in the W.T. White B-TECH Teacher Education Pathway tutored Caillet Elementary students and they were paid stipends for their time. Since 2017, about 15-20 students each year particiapte in the tutoring program through United To Learn's program United To Lead. It is the signature youth leadership program at United to Learn. They provide hands-on job experience within a Dallas ISD elementary school to include 1:1 student interactions, classroom support, administrative support, in addition to training and programmatic support within the United to Learn organization. P-TECH/ECHS students interested in exploring issues that impact our local community invest in design-based thinking to envision solutions for our city’s urgent needs and volunteer in ways they get to know young learners citywide.
