Bernard Johnson is a dedicated law enforcement leader with more than 21 years of service to the Dallas Independent School District Police Department. A Dallas native, he attended schools in both Dallas ISD and Wilmer-Hutchins ISD before graduating from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1988. He later earned an associate degree from Dallas College and a bachelor’s degree from Lamar University.

Mr. Johnson began his law enforcement career with Dallas ISD in November 1997, where he has built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to student and staff safety. In August 2003, he briefly pursued professional opportunities with Duncanville ISD while also serving as a Reserve Police Officer for the Glenn Heights Police Department from 2002 to 2004. He returned to Dallas ISD as a full-time Police Officer in April 2004, continuing his long-standing dedication to the district and its community.

Throughout his career, Johnson has demonstrated a leadership style focused on mentorship, accountability, and collaboration. Prior to his promotion to Sergeant, he served in specialized assignments as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and Gang Liaison Officer, where he played a key role in developing new officers and strengthening partnerships with students, families, and community stakeholders.

As a Sergeant, Johnson was assigned to the day shift in District 5A, where he provided operational leadership and strategic oversight. In addition to his primary supervisory duties, he held collateral assignments as the Gang Unit Sergeant and Community Engagement Sergeant, leading targeted initiatives to reduce gang-related activity, enhance campus safety, and foster positive relationships between the police department and the communities it serves.
