Community Outreach

CommunityOutreach

The Dallas ISD Police Department is committed to building strong, positive relationships with our students, families, staff, and the communities we serve. Through education, engagement, and collaboration, our Community Outreach Program helps create safer schools while strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community.

Our outreach initiatives provide opportunities for students and families to learn about the services, resources, and programs offered by the Dallas ISD Police Department. Whether through classroom presentations, mentorship, literacy programs, internships, or community events, our goal is to foster meaningful connections that support student success and school safety.

G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training)

The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a nationally recognized, evidence-based gang and violence prevention initiative taught by certified Dallas ISD Police officers in the classroom. The curriculum equips students with the skills needed to make positive life choices, resist peer pressure, resolve conflicts peacefully, and avoid gang involvement and delinquent behavior.

Law Enforcement Collegiate Academies

Dallas ISD Police officers partner with high school law and public safety academies to provide instruction on the Texas Penal Code, criminal procedure, and careers in law enforcement. Students gain real-world insight into the criminal justice system from experienced police professionals while exploring future career opportunities.

Dallas ISD Police Student Internship

Our paid summer internship provides students with hands-on experience in a professional law enforcement environment. Interns rotate through multiple divisions within the department, including:

  • Patrol
  • Campus Operations
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Community Outreach
  • Public Information & Social Media
  • Administrative Services

This program offers valuable career exploration, leadership development, and practical workplace experience.

Reading with Cops

Reading with Cops connects Dallas ISD Police officers with elementary school students through classroom reading sessions. By sharing stories and engaging with students in a positive setting, officers help promote literacy while building trust and encouraging positive relationships with law enforcement.

UNIDOS

UNIDOS is the Dallas ISD Police Department's Hispanic Community Outreach Program, dedicated to serving Spanish-speaking families throughout the district.

Quarterly meetings are conducted in both English and Spanish and provide information, resources, and assistance on topics that matter most to our community. UNIDOS serves as a bridge between Dallas ISD Police and Hispanic families by promoting communication, education, and access to available services.

Together, we are building stronger partnerships, safer schools, and a more connected community.
