Our mission is to ensure every officer possesses the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to provide exceptional service while upholding the highest standards of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
The division delivers state-mandated training, advanced tactical instruction, and specialized certification courses designed to prepare officers for the unique challenges of school-based policing. By maintaining experienced, certified instructors within the department, Dallas ISD Police provides high-quality, mission-focused training tailored to the needs of our schools and community.
In-House Training Programs
Firearms Training
Certified Firearms Instructors provide initial firearms certification, annual qualifications, tactical firearms instruction, judgment-based shooting scenarios, and comprehensive firearms safety training. Officers participate in practical, reality-based exercises that strengthen marksmanship, decision-making, weapon handling, and the responsible application of force.
ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training)
Dallas ISD Police maintains certified ALERRT instructors who deliver nationally recognized training in active attack response, integrated response, and tactical team coordination. This instruction equips officers to respond rapidly and effectively to critical incidents while prioritizing the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
Reality-Based Training (RBT)
Reality-Based Training (RBT) immerses officers in realistic, scenario-driven exercises that simulate the dynamic challenges encountered during critical incidents. Department instructors design and facilitate training that emphasizes critical thinking, communication, de-escalation, tactical movement, use-of-force decision-making, and coordinated team response.
These practical exercises require officers to apply department policy, legal principles, and sound tactics while operating under realistic conditions. RBT enhances situational awareness, threat assessment, officer safety, leadership, and problem-solving skills, ensuring officers are prepared to respond confidently, safely, and effectively in rapidly evolving situations.
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
Certified EVOC instructors provide hands-on emergency vehicle operations training that emphasizes safe, controlled, and effective driving techniques. Officers receive instruction in defensive driving, vehicle dynamics, emergency response operations, collision avoidance, and pursuit considerations through practical exercises designed to improve judgment, confidence, and operational safety.

The Specialty Training Division is dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous learning, operational readiness, and professional excellence. Through realistic, performance-based instruction and nationally recognized training standards, the division ensures Dallas ISD Police officers remain prepared to protect students, staff, and visitors while supporting the department's mission of providing a safe, secure, and positive learning environment.
