K9 Unit

The K-9 Unit is a specialized component of the Dallas ISD Police Department that enhances campus safety through the deployment of highly trained police officers and their canine partners. Together, these teams provide specialized support for law enforcement operations, school safety initiatives, and emergency response while helping to maintain safe and secure learning environments throughout the district.

The K-9 Unit serves as a valuable resource by assisting patrol officers, supporting investigations, and providing a visible presence that helps deter criminal activity and promote public safety.

What We Do

The K-9 Unit provides specialized services by:

• Conducting proactive patrols at Dallas ISD campuses and district facilities.
• Assisting with the detection of illegal narcotics and other contraband when authorized.
• Supporting officers during criminal investigations and search operations.
• Assisting in building searches during emergency incidents and security concerns.
• Providing security support during athletic events, graduations, and other district functions.
• Enhancing officer safety through specialized K-9 deployments.
• Assisting with emergency response operations and critical incidents.
• Participating in community outreach and educational demonstrations that promote safety awareness and strengthen relationships with students and families.

Specialized Training and Readiness

Each K-9 team undergoes extensive training to ensure they are prepared to respond safely and effectively to a variety of situations. Continuous training enables officers and their canine partners to maintain the skills necessary to support patrol operations, investigations, and emergency response while meeting the highest professional standards.

The K-9 Unit works closely with Campus Police, Police Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Traffic Enforcement, the Gang Unit, Emergency Management, and local law enforcement partners to provide specialized assistance whenever needed.

Building Positive Community Relationships

In addition to supporting law enforcement operations, the K-9 Unit serves as an important ambassador for the Dallas ISD Police Department. Officers regularly participate in school visits, safety presentations, and community events, providing students and families with opportunities to learn about the role of police service dogs and the importance of public safety.

These interactions help foster trust, encourage positive engagement, and strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and the communities we serve.
