Q: Are Dallas ISD police officers real police officers?

A: Yes, Dallas ISD Police Officers are really police officers. They attended training just like any law enforcement officer and are certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Q: Can Dallas ISD police make arrests and write tickets?

A: Dallas ISD Police Officers may arrest offenders of the law and issue citations, on and off a school campus, within their jurisdiction and scope of authority.

Q: What court do I go to if I get a ticket?

A: Tickets issued by Dallas ISD Police Officers are adjudicated in Justice of the Peace Courts in Dallas County.

Q: What happens if I don't pay my ticket?

A: If you do not appear in court or pay your fine, the court may issue a warrant for your arrest. Any police officer may arrest you once the warrant is issued.

Q: How can I become a Dallas ISD Police Officer?

A: There are two ways that a person can become a Dallas ISD Police Officer. Applicants who have completed a police training academy approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and passed the state licensing exam within the past two years can apply for a Police Officer position.

Occasionally, the department accepts applications from persons who have not attended or graduated from a licensed police academy. Known as Police Cadets, these persons are hired at a reduced rate of pay and sent to the academy. Once the individual graduates and passes the state licensing exam, they must commit to work for the Dallas ISD Police Department for two years.
