Racial Equity Pillars
The Racial Equity Office was established in 2017 when the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees unanimously acknowledged the District’s history of systemic inequities and voted to eliminate all inequitable practices that negatively impact achievement for all students, with an emphasis on African American and English Language Learners. The trustees further outlined six pillars in policy by which the office should function:
There are six strategic pillars that guide the operations and work of the REO in service of achieving equitable academic outcomes for all students.
- Instructional Equity
- Programmatic Equity
- Equitable Leadership and Operations
- Culturally Competent and Diverse Workforce
- Internal and External Community
- Facility and Location Equity
Foundations for Success
Aligned with the six Racial Equity Pillars, these actions are also supported by three Foundations for Success: an equity mindset, progress monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
The six pillars stand on the three foundations to help us actualize our mission of equitable academic outcomes for our students.
Our Foundations for Success exhibit how we plan to achieve equitable academic outcomes. Each step is an essential layer to achieving our goals. This framework allows each department the opportunity to provide training, tools, and resources to support an equity mindset, measure, monitor, and report progress on milestones at the beginning, middle, and end of the year, along with meaningfully engaging our stakeholders to assist in our efforts of successfully closing opportunity and equity gaps.
