How do I apply for unemployment benefits?

Workers' Comp FAQ's
What is Workers’ Compensation?
Workers’ Compensation is a no fault insurance, which pays reasonable medical costs when an employee is injured on the job. These benefits may also replace part of the wages lost due to an on-the-job injury. It pays income benefits if permanent impairment occurs from an on-the-job injury.
Who is covered?
A Dallas ISD employee is a person who is in the service of the district and is on the district's payroll who is paid on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. (Labor Code 504.001, 014) However, the following people are not considered employees for the purposes of Workers’ Compensation:
- Independent contractors (staffing agency employees)
- Volunteers (except during a Governor-declared State of Emergency)
- Any person who is not a Dallas ISD employee
Can a supervisor determine whether or not an employee can file a claim?
In most cases, it is easy to determine if an on-the-job injury has occurred. Some cases, however, may require further investigation. It is not the supervisor’s responsibility to make this determination. If the injured employee feels that the injury or illness is work-related, then it should be reported by the designated person on a specific work site.
Where can an employee receive medical treatment if injured on the job?
The following websites are for clinics and medical centers in the Dallas ISD 504 Health Care Program that can treat minor injuries/illnesses and non-life-threatening conditions. However, follow-up care after the injury has been stabilized will be maintained within the Dallas ISD 504 Health Care Program. If an employee chooses not to use the Dallas ISD 504 Health Care Program, they may incur out-of-pocket expenses.
When are benefits paid to qualified claimants?
You may be paid temporary income benefits (TIBs) if your work-related injury or illness causes you to lose all or some of your wages for more than seven (7) days.
