Adapted Physical Education
WHAT IS ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION (APE)
APE is simply adapting, modifying, and/or changing a physical activity so it is as appropriate for a student with a disability as it is for a student without a disability. APE services provide students with disabilities the opportunity to develop and/or improve their physical fitness, motor skills, and skills in sports and games in the least restrictive environment and shall meet the standards of the TEKS for physical education (PE). APE is an instructional service aimed to provide a PE program in which the activities and teaching procedures are adapted to the specific strengths and limitations of students with disabilities who cannot participate in the general PE program or who need accommodations and modifications for safe and successful participation in a general PE class.

MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to provide students with disabilities the opportunity to develop and/or improve their physical fitness, motor skills, and skills in sports and games. The primary focus enables the students to participate as independently as possible in lifetime, recreational, and leisure activities in the least restrictive environment. Our mission includes close coordination with special education teachers, physical education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service personnel, and administrators.
