Lone Star Challenge

One stipend allotment per campus. Coaches must be designated in Oracle by their campus principal.

Supplemental pay of $1,000 payable in split payments after participation in each district workshop and tournament has been completed and recorded. 

To receive the full coach stipend for workshops and tournaments, a coach should attend with:

• Minimum: 6 students (2 debate teams)
• Maximum: 12 students (4 debate teams)

The Lone Star Challenge is open to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Students compete as part of a campus team at the regional competition.

Each campus may register up to nine students. Students are divided into three teams of three:

• Red Team: 4th grade only
• White Team: 4th and 5th grade
• Blue Team: 4th, 5th, and 6th grade

The 2026–2027 Lone Star Challenge theme is the 1960s. Students will write an essay and complete tests in Mathematics, Science, Literature, and Social Studies, with all assessment content centered on this theme. The study guides provided to coaches are specifically designed to help students prepare for the concepts and content they will encounter at the regional competition.
