Young Women's STEAM Academy at Balch Springs Middle School opened in 2016 as the district’s first ‘neighborhood’ all-girls school.
Our brother school is Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Fred Florence Middle School.
Designed for academic success in an innovative learning environment, our facility is supplemented with a number of special education, visual and performing arts, instructional technology and career education classrooms for our students.
The transition from Balch Springs Middle School (opened in 2012) was centered on a vision to empower young girls to become confident trailblazers in STEAM, equipped with college and career ready skills.
Guided by core values—Growth, Innovation, Responsibility, Leadership and Service—
the staff and YWSA works tirelessly to help young women become successful global citizens.
Excelling in multiple state and district assessments and extra-curricular competitions over the years, being led by a former district Principal of the Year and, and housing almost 20 Distinguished teachers all drive our campus to continue a legacy of excellence with a focus on the whole child.
