Ms. Sookram was born on the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago. She moved to Miami, Florida when she was four years old and was raised there. She attended Miami-Dade County Public Schools and then later  worked at Gulfstream Elementary as a special education teacher for her first five years of teaching.This was the same elementary school she attended as a child and she enjoyed giving back to her community. Ms. Sookram earned a Rookie Teacher of the Year Award from the Council for Exceptional Children in 2007. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Exceptional Student Education in 2006 and first Masters Degree in Reading in 2008 from Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. in 2011. Ms. Sookram moved to Dallas and taught for 1.5 years at Garland ISD in a LIFE skills behavior unit. In 2013 Ms. Sookram began at DISD at Mata Montessori as a special education teacher and then served as the Special Education Department Chair and on the Campus Instructional Leadership Team at Sunset High School. In 2020, she was accepted into the Dallas ISD LEAD program for Educational Leadership and obtained her second Masters Degree in July 2022 from University of Texas at Dallas. In her spare time, Ms. Sookram likes to spend time with her loved ones, family and friends and her dog Snooki. She enjoys cooking, painting, fashion, shopping, outdoor activities and the beach. Ms. Sookram is very passionate about the P-TECH program and loves to help students become successful in a way that is unique for each individual. She enjoys building a great rapport with students and families and is willing to help however she can to change the lives of young scholars everywhere for the better!
