We love Jason Reynolds!  His books do not stay for long on KC Library shelves.

In Look Both Ways, he tells the story of what happens when the school dismissal bell rings.

This is a funny, touching look at the detours we face on the walk home and in life.

    ONE MILLION WORD CHALLENGE 2020-2021

DO YOU WANT TO BE A BETTER READER?  JUST READ.

Why do we want to read a million words this year?

It is a great challenge that we all can meet, and celebrate with each other as we achieve our goal.

There are other reasons besides becoming an awesome reader.  If you read 20 minutes away from school each day this school year, you will be in the group that scores in the highest percentile on tests, including state tests.  That is because you will have over 1 million extra words in your brain, helping you understand all of your classes (and tests) better.

Lookat the chart below.  Which group would you like to be in this year?

    Let's do this, KC!

    why read

24 students from Kennedy Curry each read over one million words last school year.  Students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades achieved this level of reading.  I KNOW we can do better than that this year!

You know what Nike says:  JUST DO IT!

Check out some books on SORA and check back here when you have finished a book and I will have information on how to keep track of the words. (it is easy)

SHOP IN THE KC BOOK SHOP --FOR FREE!!!

BOOK SHOP IS LOCATED INSIDE THE LIBRARY

Did you know?  Your KC Library has a bookstore.  And you can go shopping.  FOR FREE.

Here is the deal:  Read two chapter books from the library, then go shopping for 1 new book to add to your personal library at home.

We can each keep track of your books from your Million Word Tracker, and you will be able to go shopping in our bookstore when the library opens for students.

The Worst Class Trip Ever (Class Trip Series #1) by Dave Barry

In this hilarious novel, written in the voice of eighth-grader Wyatt Palmer, Dave Barry takes us on a class trip to Washington, DC. Wyatt, his best friend, Matt, and a few kids from Culver Middle School find themselves in a heap of trouble-not just with their teachers, who have long lost patience with them-but from several mysterious men they first meet on their flight to the nation's capital. In a fast-paced adventure with the monuments as a backdrop, the kids try to stay out of danger and out of the doghouse while trying to save the president from attack-or maybe not.
