To celebrate International SEL Day on March 27th, students and staff members can take our Department SEL Day Challenge (available in English / disponble en español) on March 27th!
The goals of International SEL Day are to raise awareness of social and emotional learning, bring in new stakeholders, and celebrate the ways that SEL currently happens in our community!
SEL Student Summit Highlights [January 2020]
Our department hosted an SEL Student Leadership Summit at the Dallas Arboretum on Friday, December 20th. Students participated in sessions around understanding their identity, using their voice, and contributing to their campus communities.

Piedmont Healthcare created a one-pager document with information on different Mindfulness and Meditation apps, including app details, potential costs, and availability.
Resource: Narwhals and Waterfalls [March 2019]
Narwhals and Waterfalls is a Dallas-based duo that writes and performs original music, focused on social and emotional learning. Two of their songs, The Breathing Song and The Mood Song are great examples of SEL strategies integrated into music and performance. Thanks to N&W for their fabulous work!

Introducing SEL Learning Standards [September 2018]
Our team is excited to introduce our SEL learning standards, which articulate specific learning objectives for what we want our students and adults to know and do within each SEL competency. Teachers and instructional staff can use these standards as a guide for facilitating SEL skill development and identifying progress within each competency.
Fall 2018 Training: Student Engagement [September - November 2018]
Our Student Engagement team will offer abbreviated 2-hour versions of two summer training sessions, Building Positive Classroom Systems and Culturally Responsive Teaching, this fall on the following dates:
- Wednesday, September 12th
- Wednesday, October 3rd
- Tuesday, October 23rd
- Thursday, November 15th
All sessions are scheduled for 4-6PM at the Dr. H.B. Bell School Support Service Center (2909 N. Buckner Blvd). Please register in Cornerstone to confirm your spot!

SEL Leadership Institute [June 2018]
Our team hosted a two-day Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Leadership Institute to orient campus teams on the importance of SEL as well as provide training on how to implement SEL practices and approaches on their campus next year. We had over 400 daily participants, representing over 100 Dallas ISD schools!

Dallas ISD, in partnership with Big Thought, received a four-year Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI) grant from The Wallace Foundation to implement SEL during in and out-of-school time to support student growth and long-term success.
