Yuko Goto is from Sapporo, Hokkaido (northern island) of Japan. She started piano lessons at the age of 3. She became an exchange student her senior year in high school and spent a year in San Antonio, Texas where she never experienced the intense heat of the South! Because of the heat, she decided to go to a college up north. She started at Yankton College in Yankton, South Dakota and transferred to the University of South Dakota where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and Music Education. While in South Dakota, she entered in numerous piano competitions around Midwest. She has performed Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with Cherokee Symphony in Iowa. She then moved back to Texas for her graduate studies despite the heat. She received her master’s degree in Piano Performance, Piano Accompanying and Piano Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University.
Yuko started teaching Piano at Benjamin Franklin Middle School upon graduation in the 90s. As a piano teacher, she was able to foster a close relationship with students which lead her to become a school counselor. Yuko earned her school counseling certification from Texas A&M Commerce. She has been a counselor at Chavez Learning Center, T. C. Marsh Middle School and Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
She travels to Japan twice a year to visit her family. She is a huge fan of Star Wars (Episodes 1-6). Her children’s names are Luke and Leia!
Yuko is very excited to be a part of BTW Family and work with talented students.
