Mr. Romero began his career in 2004 as an Alternative Certification elementary teacher in Houston as a First Grade Teacher at Audrey Bush Elementary, where he later served as a Fourth Grade Teacher and an Instructional Technology Specialist. After 7 years, he and his family moved to East Texas where he obtained his master's in educational leadership through the University of Texas at Tyler and served in School Leadership roles such as a Campus Instructional Coach and Assistant Principal. He began his career in Dallas ISD in 2015 as an Assistant Principal at S.S. Conner Elementary and later at Gilbert Cuellar, Sr. Elementary before becoming the proud principal for Marcus Elementary in 2018.

During his tenure at Marcus, Mr. Romero has worked with amazing community and business partners, parents, teachers, and staff members to shape the future of our students by introducing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People through the "Leader in Me" model for Social and Emotional Learning. With his vision to grow and inspire the future leaders of our nation, Mr. Romero has secured for Marcus Elementary almost half a million dollars in grants, awards, and donations from partners like Neiman Marcus, NEC of America, United to Learn, United Way of Dallas, and the Office of Transformation and Innovation in Dallas ISD. In 2020, he applied for -and won- an innovation engine award for a pilot program in student leadership. Then, in 2021, Marcus was one of only 13 schools in Dallas ISD awarded the "School of Choice" distinction in Leadership Innovation.

He also introduced the House System Competition in 2018 where every staff member and student are sorted into one of Marcus' 5 Houses that represent the desire of our teachers to add value to our little ones beyond academics:

    - Erudito, the House of Knowledge
    - Vezetes, the House of Leadership
    - Audax, the House of Confidence
    - Synergy, the House of Teamwork
    - Creativo, the House of Innovation

Mr. Romero and his #BestStaffEver, want to create together a learning community that knows no limits to the LEADERSHIP potential and academic SUCCESS of every student, every staff member, every day!
