  • Daniel Calvo is proud to join Marcus Leadership Academy as a Principal on its 60th anniversary. He is proudly transitioning to take the reigns and continue the legacy of greatness and commitment to cultural and academic excellence that distinguishes Marcus Leadership Academy.

Daniel is the proud husband of a Dallas ISD Early Learning Instructional Specialist, Veruschka Calvo. Together they have two lovely kids. Anahi is a Gifted and Talented student, an avid reader, and passionate about Civil Rights. Ignacio is an active 7-year-old boy who loves math and is an expert on Pokémon and dinosaurs.

Mr. Calvo started his education career as a university teaching assistant and professor at the undergraduate and graduate level. He coached and mentored personnel in his different roles in the private and not-for-profit sectors. In 2007, The Calvo Family came to the United States to pursue the American Dream. While being an immigrant and having the opportunity to teach the children of immigrants, he found his purpose and passion.

Mr. Calvo began his public education journey in 2007 serving in Garland ISD. Mr. Calvo's multiple leadership roles as math, reading, science and bilingual leader allowed him to coach and mentor novice and veteran teachers. These roles inspired him to become an administrator. In July 2019, he joined Dallas ISD as the Assistant Principal at Charles A. Gill Elementary. He supported and promoted a culture of growth and accountability, the cornerstone for the campus's most recent success in the state assessment. Alongside the principal, Mr. Calvo led the establishment of solid phonics and guided reading programs while coaching teachers in understanding and using data to provide timely intervention. His collaboration with the administrative team significantly improved the faculty perception of the effectiveness of feedback they receive. At his current campus, students and teachers are celebrated for their achievements and dedication which inspires all to achieve higher, something he aspires to bring to Marcus Leadership Academy.

As a principal, Mr. Calvo believes in nurturing the hearts and brains of students and staff members. He believes that the voice of students, teachers, staff members, and parents brings the campus to life. In addition, he is convinced that communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking are essential 21st-century skills for students to succeed.

He envisions Marcus Leadership Academy to be a place where students are treated with dignity and respect, as well as equity being the foundation for growth and excellence. Mr. Calvo will work eagerly to create strong home-to-school connections ensuring parents are partners in education. He pledges to boost the impact of the Leader in Me program to develop intrinsic motivation and accountability in Marcus' scholars.
