Tabitha Preston

My name is Tabitha Preston and I am honored and humbled that I have been selected to be the new principal of Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy. My greatest accomplishment is being a wife and mother to three wonderful children…my first teaching experience. I attended undergraduate school at Prairie View A&M University and received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1997. Next, I earned my Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University in 2008.

My teaching experience began in Aldine ISD and eventually led me to the Dallas Independent School District. My first teaching job in Dallas ISD was in 2005 at Charles Rice Learning Center where I taught 6th grade, and then Sidney Lanier Elementary Vanguard for the Expressive Arts, where I taught 4th grade. Prior to acquiring this new position, I have served in the role of Assistant Principal at W.W. Bushman Elementary, Clinton P. Russell Elementary, Harry Stone Montessori Academy an International Baccalaureate World School – MYP and Frederick Douglass STEM Academy.

Being an educator is truly rewarding and gives me a sense that I am making the world a better place - one student at a time. My goal is to encourage my students to pursue their dreams and discover their strengths and talents, so that they can believe in themselves the way that I believe in them. It is my charge to ensure that our children are blooming with TALL possibilities.

Presentando a la Sra. Tabitha Preston

Diana Gonzalez

Assistant Principal

Here is a little bit about me. I was born in Mexico and moved to Texas when I was 10 years old. Coming from a different cultural background I had to learn to integrate into a new school and a new cultural environment. I not only was faced with the challenge of learning a new language but also with the challenge of maintaining my language and culture. I was fortunate to have had passionate educators that believed in me. That was one of the reasons I wanted to become an educator. I started working for the Dallas Independent School District as a Bilingual Educational Aid and continued going to college in my spare time. I graduated with my Associates in Science from Community College and recommenced my education with Texas Tech University. After 3 years, I graduated from Texas Tech University with a certification in Bilingual Education. Following my graduation, I got a job as a classroom teacher at the same campus I had been a Paraprofessional at. Being in the classroom setting was very rewarding but I knew I wanted to make a difference at a larger scale and pursued my master’s degree in policy studies and Administration through the University of Texas at Arlington. With my 21 years of experience in Education I am proud to serve as the Assistant Principal at Downtown Montessori Academy and be a part of this outstanding community.
