DALLAS ISD PROPOSED 2021-2022 INTERSESSION CALENDAR (posted 1/22/2021)
What is Intersession? How will it work?
During the intersession school calendar, 180 learning days would be spread out over the full year, with intermittent breaks for targeted remediation with a subset of students. Meaning, students who are struggling in specific areas would receive targeted instruction during the intermittent breaks. students will have opportunities for more personalized attention in smaller groups.
The intersession model would be implemented for the high school, middle schools, and elementary schools in that feeder. At least one school at each level will serve as a “hub” campus that hosts intersession students during these weeks. While not every student would attend all of the intersessions, all of the students in the feeder would benefit from the extended year model.
The calendars are linkedWhat will the calendars look like? The Intersession calendar has five intersessions spread throughout the year in September, November, January, February, and June. Each intersession week will begin with a teacher planning day without students on campus, followed by three or four student intersession days, depending on the week.
Students & staff will have at least a 4-week break in the summer. Students and staff not participating in an intersession week will have a holiday during that week. All designated holidays will remain the same for all schools across the district.
Which students will have the opportunity to participate? How will they be chosen? At Intersession schools, we anticipate up to 50% of students will participate in intersession weeks. Design teams will be working throughout the spring to clarify the student selection & enrollment process for intersession.
