Prestonwood Montessori @ E.D. Walker
We are honored that you are interested the new Prestonwood Montessori campus at ED Walker as your child's learning experience. Montessori is a positive and encouraging learning environment designed to meet the needs of the whole child. Montessori nourishes order, concentration, responsibility, citizenship and independence.
One of the best things about Montessori is that students have an opportunity to be hands-on with every teacher presentation. Lessons presented to your child will include hands on materials that will enable your child to learn through experiences rather than curriculum that is completely focused on paper and pencil activities. Students have the opportunity to explore learning through the beautifully designed Montessori materials displayed in the classroom. Intentional classroom design, materials, and daily routines support the student agency.
At this new Montessori program, we have the advantage of exposing our children to as many unique experiences as possible such as orchestra, dance, yoga, and the visual arts. Our children will plant, grow, pick, clean and eat some of their own food in our community garden and learn in outdoor spaces as much as possible. Our children will also have the opportunity to experiment with robots and coding with our STEM coordinator.
We are privileged and lucky to provide access to this Montessori curriculum in a public school setting. This also means we have a monumental responsibility to demonstrate, through assessments, that our children are performing and making progress on state standards as a result of our strong Montessori and dual language approach.
We want all students to feel and be successful in their Montessori classroom. We look forward to establishing a community that best serves all of our children.
Sincerely,
Ashley Toole (Principal)
