Mrs. Rocio Bernal

Ms. Bernal was born and raised in Chicago, Il. Her family moved to Texas, where she attended University of North Texas and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.  Shortly after graduating she joined Dallas ISD at her first campus as a bilingual teacher. She has been with Dallas ISD for over 25 years. Dallas ISD welcomed her where she made it her second home away from home.

Over the years in Dallas ISD she has served in different capacities in different parts of Dallas. On her last meeting for her current assignment, with Dr. Hinojosa, Dallas Superintendent, he jokingly said “You’re on a tour of Dallas.”  She served as a bilingual teacher at Maple Lawn, Reinhardt, and Bonham elementary. After graduating from Texas A&M-Commerce with a Masters in Educational Administration she served as an instructional coach for New Teachers and shortly dove into administration. As an assistant principal she served at Edward Titche, W.A. Blair, and Nancy Moseley Elementary.

Her principal role took her from Bethune Elementary to Nancy Moseley, L.L. Hotchkiss and G.W. Truett. Currently she is the proud principal of G.W. Truett where she brings over 13 years of experience as a principal. She enjoys her role as a principal where she feels she can make an impact on her students and staff. She is very passionate about the experience all students should have at every campus. Every student deserves the best regardless of their socio-economic level. They deserve the best education and her mission is to ensure that her teachers are equipped to do just that.

Although the principalship is a solo position at the helm of every school, she strongly believes in team effort, growing her teachers into leaders, and building capacity so students will reap from those efforts. The success at every campus she’s led was a result of everyone working together for the common goal.  As Simon Sinek says, “Together is Better.”

La Sra. Bernal nació y fue criada en Chicago, Il. Su familia se mudó a Texas, donde ella asistió a la Universidad de North Texas y se graduó con su licenciatura en educación elemental. Corto tiempo después de graduarse ella se unió a Dallas ISD en su primera escuela como maestra bilingüe. Ella ha estado con Dallas ISD por mas de 25 años. Dallas ISD le dio la bienvenida y ella la hizo su segunda casa fuera de su casa.

A través de los años en Dallas ISD ella ha servido a diferentes capacidades en diferentes partes de Dallas. En su ultima junta para su asignación actual con Dr. Hinojosa, Superintendente de Dallas, el bromeando dijo “Estas en un viaje por Dallas”. Ella sirvió como maestra bilingüe en las escuelas elemental Maple Lawn, Reinhardt y Bonham. Después de graduarse de Texas A&M-Commerce con su Maestría en Administración de Educación, ella sirvió como entrenadora instruccional para nuevos maestros y un poco después como administradora. Como una subdirectora ella sirvió en las escuelas elemental Edward Titche, W.A. Blair, y Nancy Moseley.

Su rol como directora la llevo a la escuela elemental Bethune, Nancy Moseley, L.L. Hotchkiss y G.W. Truett. Actualmente ella es una directora orgullosa de G.W. Truett donde ella trae más de 13 años de experiencia como directora. Ella disfruta su rol como directora donde ella se siente que impacta a sus estudiantes y el personal. Cada estudiante merece lo mejor independientemente de su nivel socioeconómico. Ellos merecen la mejor educación y su misión es asegurarse que los maestros sean equipados a hacer exactamente eso.

Aunque ser directora sea una posición solitaria en el timón de cada escuela, ella cree fuertemente en el esfuerzo de equipo, crecer a sus maestros como líderes, y construir una capacidad para que los estudiantes cosechen de su esfuerzo. El éxito en cada escuela en la cual ella a liderado fue un resultado de todos trabajando juntos hacia una meta en común. Como dice Simon Sinek, “Juntos es Mejor”.
