Mrs. Tabitha Preston
My name is Tabitha Preston, and I am honored and humbled to serve as the principal of Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy. My greatest accomplishment is being a wife and mother to three wonderful children…my first teaching experience. I attended undergraduate school at Prairie View A&M University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1997. Next, I earned my Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University in 2008.
My teaching experience began at Aldine ISD and eventually led me to the Dallas Independent School District. My first teaching job at Dallas ISD was in 2005 at Charles Rice Learning Center, where I taught 6th grade, and then at Sidney Lanier Elementary Vanguard for the Expressive Arts, where I taught 4th grade. Prior to acquiring this new position, I served in the role of Assistant Principal at W.W. Bushman Elementary, Clinton P. Russell Elementary, Harry Stone Montessori Academy, an International Baccalaureate World School – MYP, and Frederick Douglass STEM Academy.
Being an educator is truly rewarding and gives me a sense that I am making the world a better place - one student at a time. My goal is to encourage my students to pursue their dreams and discover their strengths and talents so that they can believe in themselves the way that I believe in them. It is my charge to ensure that DMA makes a TALL Difference with Every Child Every Day!
