AVID began in Dallas ISD in 2002. It has flourished over the years and is in practice at 46 campuses. There are two National Demonstration Schools: A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School and Thomas J. Rusk Middle School. Felix G. Botello Elementary School is the district's flagship elementary campus.
