English IV, College and Career Readiness (CCRS)
Professional Profile
Unlike so many educators, I am not the child of a professional educator; however, my parents were very instrumental in instilling in me the value of education. I began as a psychology major, and as most college students, in my third year, I changed my major to English. I was encouraged by a college professor to pursue a career in education - as she put it "you're a natural educator". That was the best decision I have ever made because I enjoy going to work every day! My career in education began only fifteen years ago, but I have enjoyed much success during that time. I was nominated as the Disney Teacher of the Year 2007, and I was Teacher of the Year at my school 2008.
I have never stopped learning, dreaming, creating or searching for the best practices. Because I am one of those persons who writes journals for everything in life, reflective practices were not unfamiliar to me. I am constantly striving to be the best I can be. I have been fortunate enough to have taught in rural, inner city and urban school districts both at public and private Florida schools. I taught in Sarasota, Florida eleven years before moving to Arlington, Texas. I was not the traditional college student - I returned to college after being in the workforce (health care) for 14 years. I was a divorcee with two young daughters, who became my motivation to obtain my degree; through my example, my daughters learned the importance of education and to never to let go of their dreams.Previous Courses Taught:
