African American Read-In Day

AARI 2023

A Celebration of Reading. A Tradition of Inspiration.

For more than three decades, one simple act has brought generations together — reading. The African American Read-In has been a living reminder that reading has the power to change lives. This national tradition began in 1990 through the National Council of Teachers of English, created to bring people together around the joy and importance of reading. What started as a single initiative has grown into a lasting movement that continues to inspire generations of readers and dreamers.

Each year, we gather to celebrate the simple yet powerful act of reading, because within every book lives a dream waiting to be discovered. When students read, they begin to see new worlds, new ideas, and new versions of themselves. Reading becomes more than words on a page; it becomes hope, direction, and possibility.

As we continue this beloved tradition, this year, we invite every reader to Read. Dream. Soar. Read to discover. Dream without limits. Soar toward a future filled with purpose, confidence, and endless potential.

Experience the Power of Reading in Action

“Every year, stories come alive, students discover their voice, and the joy of reading fills the room — this is the African American Read-In.”
