SEL Summer Learning Opportunities [June 2021]
Visit the Teaching and Learning Winds of Change website to check out summer learning offerings by department, including optional summer sessions led by the Social and Emotional Learning Team! Please note that there are no mandatory requirements for summer 2021 learning.
If you'd like to join one of our virtual SEL sessions, registration links are included on the SEL course catalog page. Once you register for a session, the meeting information and Zoom meeting link will be sent to the email address that you included on the registration form. Mindful Mondays for Parents and Caregivers during Summer 2021 [June 2021]
Recharge yourself this summer with mindfulness sessions for Dallas ISD parents and caregivers with the SEL Department! The virtual sessions will provide a safe, open, and interactive environment for self-reflection and engagement. All sessions are free, and no experience is necessary.

AAPI Heritage Month Resources for Morning Meetings / Community Meetings [May 2021]
In collaboration with Dallas ISD's Racial Equity Office (REO), the Social and Emotional Learning Department has created resources for morning meetings and community meetings during Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month (the month of May):
Resources include a welcoming activity, a sharing prompt, and an optimistic closure in addition to highlighting AAPI Pioneers with brief videos and background information. Visit REO's website for additional resources!
Self-Paced SEL Training [March 2021]
The SEL Department has created self-paced training modules in Nearpod to support Dallas ISD staff in learning more about SEL practices. Currently available courses include:

Save the Date! SEL Student Leadership Summit [March 2021]
The SEL Department will host a virtual SEL Student Leadership Summit on June 9th, 2021 from 9:00am-12:00pm.
We invite Dallas ISD secondary campuses to recruit a team of 5 students and one educator to attend. Summit sessions will focus on student empowerment to promote student advocacy on campus in support of SEL, and participants will leave with an understanding of themselves and how to use their voice to positively impact school culture and climate through Social and Emotional Learning strategies. SEL in Action: Teacher Discussion Series [February 2021]
Dallas ISD’s Social and Emotional Learning Department has a new discussion series just for teachers. The SEL In Action: Teacher Discussion Series will meet every fourth Wednesday, in February through May, to engage Dallas ISD teachers in informal discussions centered around important topics educators are facing.
These open forums will be a safe place to discuss these topics, build community, form healthy relationships, and discuss social and emotional wellness. Click here to register!

The Wallace Foundation recently launched a Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Podcast series. One of the episodes, Building Effective Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning, highlights the strong partnership between Dallas ISD and Big Thought in executing our aligned SEL implementation efforts.
Black History Month Resources for Morning Meetings / Community Meetings [February 2021]
In collaboration with Dallas ISD's Racial Equity Office, the Social and Emotional Learning Department has created daily resources for morning meetings and community meetings during Black History Month:
Each school day in February has a dedicated slide in these decks featuring a Greeting, Sharing Activity, and Optimistic Closure. Also on each slide, is a video filmed of a Dallas student highlighting a lesser-known figure in Black History. We hope that these activities will show our children the richness of Black life in America and help them connect to American history.

With our SEL Dallas partners, we have created an Implementation Guidebook to orient in- and out of school time partners on what it takes to implement comprehensive social and emotional learning practices at a campus for the benefit of students.
This is an excellent resource for those campuses starting their SEL implementation journey or other sites looking for resources to refine their SEL practices and campus-based capacity. The Guidebook is available either as a PDF or online as a website.

TEA has launched Project Restore and this trauma-informed training video series, which is designed to address these extraordinary and unprecedented needs and connect you to relevant science and strategies that can help you address your own emotional needs as well the needs of your students and colleagues. This series will help educators create an environment that jump starts teaching and learning and drives student achievement.

SEL Implementation Report [October 2020]
The RAND Corporation and The Wallace Foundation released the first public report on the first two years of PSELI (Partnerships for Social and Emotinoal Learning Initative) grant implementation. The report, Early Lessons from Schools and Out of School Time Programs Implementing Social and Emotional Learning, shares preliminary findings from all six PSELI communities, including Dallas.
Virtual Calming Corner
The Counseling Services Department has created a virtual calming corner to provide tools and resources for managing feelings and emotions, thus supporting mental health. Take a mental break and enjoy!

- The PDL team has developed a principal-focused website as well as a teacher-focused website with training information.
- Remember that you will need to be logged into your Google account with your district email (EAD log-in / password) to access the websites and related resources.
- To find our SEL Department's self-paced course, visit Cornerstone and search for "Module 9: SEL & Trauma Informed Care-Campus Culture Priorities." There are two options: one for elementary teachers and one for secondary teachers, and participants will receive credit upon completing the course.

Ongoing Webinars from External Partners
- As part of the CASEL CARES initiative, CASEL is offering free webinars every Friday to address how SEL can be most helpful in response to today’s circumstances.
- Pure Edge is leading a number of free Community Webinars focused on self-care, mindfulness, brain breaks, and more. They also have developed different content tailored to educators, parents / caregivers, and students!
District-wide Opportunity: Mastermind Sessions
All Dallas ISD staff members are invited to participate in free weekly 60-minute virtual mindfulness and emotional intelligence sessions provided by Mastermind.
- Sessions will focus on science-based mindfulness strategies for cultivating self-awareness and self-management. Each session will include information and teachings on emotional intelligence, formal and informal mindfulness exercises, and key takeaways for daily life.
Join us every Wednesday at 7:00 pm, beginning August 26th - December 16th.
