Beginning in sixth grade, Dallas ISD students may elect to take Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) courses.  These courses are open to all students who wish to engage in high-level learning.  Pre-Advanced Placement courses build on students’ strengths and prepare them for success in Advanced Placement and other advanced academic courses.

The Pre-AP curricula for these courses are:

    • academically challenging
    • coordinated with core content
    • developed with a concentration on building student capacity to understand rigorous content
    • aligned with Advanced Placement course descriptions generated by the College Board

Students are encouraged, but not required, to take Pre-AP courses prior to enrolling in Advanced Placement courses.  The strategies and skills students learn in Pre-AP courses help them acquire content knowledge, prepare them for success in Advanced Placement courses, and provide a foundation for college readiness.
