Degrees and Certifications:
2017-2018 is my first year at Mata and 8th year working in special education in both public and private settings. I grew up in the Dallas area and ventured away from home earning a scholarship to play soccer at Texas Tech University. Upon graduating, I dedicated a year of service working at ICAN in Arizona through the AmeriCorps program. Following this life changing experience, I worked in nonprofit for three years as the Director of Youth Programs at SBNC in Bethlehem, PA. From 2009-2010, I was awarded the unique opportunity to teach abroad in both Sweden and Costa Rica. After a wonderful experience in these two countries, I traveled back to PA and began a Master's in Special Education and Elementary Certification from Lehigh University while working three years at Centennial School of Lehigh University, a nationally recognized laboratory school focusing on school-wide positive behavior supports and teacher training. My last year in PA, I worked as an Emotional Support Teacher at Shoemaker Elementary.
During the summer of 2014, I made a cross country move from PA to TX to be back in my hometown, close to family and friends. I worked three years at Northwood Hills Elementary in RISD and feel fortunate to be at Mata this year working close to home.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, going on walks with my dog, traveling, and watching HGTV.
