At their June board meeting, trustees approved the temporary relocation of South Oak Cliff High School students and staff to the district’s campus at Village Fair to ensure their safety during campus renovations set to begin in December.
The board also voted to allocate $2.5 million in bond funds for necessary renovations to Village Fair to make it ready to accommodate the school’s 1300 students. The students will be relocated to Village Fair at winter break of next school year to make way for $52 million in improvements to their home campus. The 2015 bond program improvements include campus wide renovations to classrooms, the school auditorium, fine arts and performing arts spaces, technology upgrades, cafeteria expansion and improvements to heating, air-conditioning, and roofing systems. The building will also receive new public and student entry areas.
The relocation is expected to accelerate the pace of improvements at the Marsalis Avenue campus and realize sufficient cost savings to cover relocation and construction costs.
Plans call for students to attend classes at their renovated campus in August 2019.
