The well-being of our students is of the utmost importance to our District. Districtwide efforts are in place to support the whole student, such as social and emotional learning, racial equity, mental health services, and counseling, to name a few. However, currently, there is not any explicit data on the social and emotional skills of our students.
This fall, the District is launching the first social and emotional learning (SEL) districtwide survey for students in grades 3-12. The 15-minute survey will be completed online every fall beginning this October. By administering this survey, three areas of interest will be addressed:
• Obtain formative data regarding students' individual social and emotional needs as identified by the students themselves. Data collected from this survey will inform teachers, counselors, and mental health clinicians of specific student and class supports needed, as well as SEL training needed for staff by the SEL Department.
• Use survey data as a starting point for selecting multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) intervention opportunities under the pillar of engagement.
• Provide students an opportunity to practice completing an online survey prior to the administration in May 2021 of the Student Experience survey for TEI. Similar to the TEI Student Experience survey, the SEL survey will be administered by Panorama Education.
On our campus, this survey will be administered on October 27 (Freshmen/Sophomores) and October 29 (Juniors/Seniors) during Flex.
