Leonard Hayes at the Gateways Music Festival
Leonard Hayes, Director of Piano Studies and Primary Instructor, participated in the Gateways Music Festival in Association with the Eastman School of Music. The Gateways Music Festival, to celebrate the achievements of classical musicians and composers of African descent. The festival was founded by Steinway Artist - Pianist Armenta Adams Hummings in 1993; and was held in Winston Salem, North Carolina. In 1994, Ms. Hummings was appointed as Associate Professor of Music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and the Gateways was integrated into the Rochester’s musical culture. The biennial festival, invites one hundred – twenty five musicians of African Descent to presents over fifty concerts throughout the city of Rochester, four of which included Mr. Hayes. Mr. Hayes presented solo and chamber works by George Walker, Sergey Rachmaninoff, Franz Liszt and Camille Saint- Saens. Mr. Hayes graduated from the Eastman School of music in 2015 with a Master of Music Degree in Piano.
