Dallas ISD CTE Celebrates Manufacturing Month 

The month of October is filled with lots of firsts for the CTE Department! As we continue to move forward with academic programming, the department and its industry partners collaborated on its first virtual event to showcase and highlight the Manufacturing career cluster.

Manufacturing Day 2020: Friday, October 2nd The Dallas ISD CTE Department presented a virtual facility tour with industry partner AC Horn Manufacturing to observe Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 2, 2020. Along with an introduction of the company’s CEO and President Michael D. Horn, Jr., middle and high school students and teachers participated in a question/answer session on topics to include the origin of AC Horn Manufacturing and its contribution to Dallas' economic development, growing trends in the Manufacturing industry, and certifications in the Manufacturing career cluster. Michael began working for the business in 2011 and has rapidly grown the company by meeting the needs of customers and enhancing relationships. He chose to become an industry partner with Dallas ISD in order to promote manufacturing to our students. The advice that he would give his high school self is to be honest with yourself about what you want in life and do not worry about what others think. His favorite quote is: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”

Long time industry partner Steven Bridges, the Account Executive of Advanced Manufacturing for Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, was able to support and participate in Manufacturing Day 2020 with Career Institutes – South’s Mechatronics career pathway program during this event. He also stayed and toured CI South campus and was completely amazed at the transformation. Mr. Bridges has worked in Workforce Development for over 22 years in almost every capacity of the Workforce System. His passion for workforce services fuels his desire to bridge the tremendous skills gap that exists in America. To accomplish this task, Steven works to develop the strong partnerships necessary to ensure skills training is relevant for today’s workforce needs. The CTE Department would like to thank our Manufacturing industry partners for their continued support in growing this career cluster and networking with our students and teachers!
