SUBJECT: At-Home Learning Plans (Continued Learning Plan in Case of Potential Coronavirus Closure)
Dallas ISD considers the health and safety of our staff and students our top priority. The District has been
monitoring the Coronavirus outbreak and has been working with the Dallas County Health Agency on
guidance. At this time, the Department of Public Health is reiterating that there is no immediate threat to
the general public. However, in the event a school needs to be closed due to the virus, this memo outlines
the procedures and protocol schools will use to continue providing instruction for the duration of the school
closure.
At-Home Learning Plan Overview:
• School Leadership, Teaching & Learning, and Technology have developed guidelines and
support to offer continuous learning opportunities for students should the Dallas County Health
& Human Services (DCHHS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) advise of necessary
school closures
• FOR GRADES 6 – 12 - Campuses will support training for teachers and students on the use of
PowerSchool Learning Management System or Google Classroom as a continuous learning
platform using district provided resources linked below. A series of webinars will be hosted with
the first being on Thursday, March 12 at 4:00 pm to support teachers in setting up their online
classrooms.
o (Join Link for the Teams PowerSchool Learning Webinar – March 12, 2020 4:00 PM)
o (Join Link for the Teams Google Classroom Webinar – March 12, 2020 4:00 PM)
• FOR GRADES PK – 5 - At-Home learning plans for each grade level PK – 5 will be distributed
to all elementary campuses to recommend daily activities in reading, math, science and social
studies. A schedule of recommended appropriate public access TV programming supporting
core content learning will also be provided to students as an option to continue their studies
while at home. See links below.
• Once CDC provides warning of potential to close, middle school and high school campuses will
begin to ensure students take technology devices home daily.
• Technology is currently exploring options from local internet carriers to support greater access
to internet services for students while at home.
ACTION STEPS
FOR GRADES 6 – 12 - Secondary Campus Principal Immediate Action Steps
Support and Direction for Teachers
• Notify campus instructional staff that they are expected to provide instruction and be
available during school hours in the event of a school closure. Direct teachers to notify their
immediate supervisor should they become ill during the school closure.
• Determine and document for your campus, the platform that will be utilized for the campus
as a whole or by teacher individual choice in order to support student/parent questions
about which platform to use for at-home learning.

• Schedule and provide immediate opportunities for teachers to participate in training, either
at school prior to the closure or online, to create and upload instructional content for
students through PowerSchool LMS or Google Classroom for students. See links below.
• Direct teachers to utilize the online classroom to continue daily instruction and that they
will be expected to log in daily to upload instructional content, check student assignments
and monitor student engagement in the virtual environment.
• Notify teachers that training modules will include how to submit a ticket via
remedyforce.dallasisd.org to address technology issues while they are working remotely.
Technology support staff will be available during regular work hours to provide remote
support.
Support and Direction for Students
• Create and execute a plan to distribute devices on or before notification of closure, to allow
students to take home their school issued device daily. All campuses must allow students
to take home devices during the closure event.
• Schedule and implement online training for students to enroll in PowerSchool LMS or
Google Classroom for each core content class as directed by their instructor. As part of
this training, students will learn how to submit a ticket via remedyforce.dallasisd.org in the
event of technology issues while at home. See links below.
• Notify students that they will be expected to log in daily to receive instruction and participate
in classroom assignments via their virtual classroom. Any assignments provided during the
school closure time frame are subject to inclusion in the grade book at the discretion of the
classroom teacher.
FOR GRADES PK – 5 - Elementary Campus Principal Immediate Action Steps
Support and Direction for Teachers
• Notify campus instructional staff that they are expected to be available during school hours
in the event of a school closure. Direct teachers to notify their immediate supervisor should
they become ill during the school closure.
• Direct teachers to review the “At-Home Learning Plan” for their designated grade level to
collect and distribute necessary resources to be sent home with students in the event of a
school closure. (This may include books, paper, pencils, consumable
reading/math/science/social studies texts and student specific log in credentials for
learning platforms). Teachers will need to send the “at-home learning plan” and associated
resources upon notification that a school closure will occur.
▪ Print the At-Home Learning Plan for the Grade Level for each student
▪ Create resource bag for each student of listed “consumable resources” identified
in each content area in the At-Home Learning Plan.
Support and Direction for Students
• Notify students that they will be expected to participate daily in the recommended At-Home
Learning Activities. They are encouraged to watch the recommended educational TV
programming as well as utilize the educational software resources. Any assignments
completed during the school closure time frame should be submitted to their teacher upon return to school. Assignments are subject to inclusion in the grade book at the discretion
of the classroom teacher.
