City Year held their first annual Leadership Summit, which was a whole day event for Freshmen and Sophomores who were identified by their teachers as leaders or future leaders at Spruce! About 80 students were in attendance and they spent the day learning many valuable leadership skills that will help them throughout high school and beyond!
Students clearly had lots of fun AND looked great for Leadership Summit!
City Year Spruce's sponsor, AT&T, came out to help us beautify our school! We invited students to join, and together, we spent the day building benches, painting murals, and landscaping. You can check out the finished work in the library, the early college hallway, and outside the front and back of the school.
Carlos and one of his students work together to problem solve as they build some planter benches.
Students, volunteers and City Year members work together to make a building plan.
Ms. Rachael and her students posing after a hard day's work.
It wasn't all hard work, we had some fun too!
These hard working ladies pose with their bench and college direction pole (not yet completed at that time).
City Year's 5th 6 weeks event, Chicken n' a Show, celebrated students who made A/B honor roll, had perfect attendance, and no referrals. We are so proud of their hard work and wanted to reward them with some Chick fil a chicken nuggets and a special performance by local band, Skruff!
Students had fun playing with bubbles and balloons while watching the show.
Skruff was so good we wanted to be front row!
One of our very own students is a rock star! He jumped right in with the band without missing a beat.
City Year had an attendance initiative on Valentine's Day where they passed out pencils with a tag saying "You're write on time!" to all students in attendance. Check out some of the pictures!
