Dear Parents and Guardians:

Your child's homeroom teacher has discussed arrival and dismissal procedures with your child(ren). We want to remind you about traffic safety in the mornings and afternoons here at our school.

The doors to Thelma Richardson ES open at 7:45 a.m.  Please leave the house with plenty of time to enjoy your drive to school with your child(ren) together in the mornings!

In the mornings, please stay in one lane when you drop your child(ren) off next to the curb in the carline. This way, students can get out of the car and step right on the sidewalk. Please be considerate of other parents and help your child(ren) make sure that they have all of their belongings so the transition from the car to curb is quick.

  • Parents, please do not park cars. The drop off lanes are only for students to be dropped off and have a constant flow of traffic to avoid backups and bottlenecks.

  • Please don't drop students off in the parking lot because they cannot cross the walkways by themselves. It is far too dangerous!

  • Please be considerate of  teachers who are trying to report to work and begin the day with good instruction. Do not use the teachers parking spaces to park and drop students off. Teachers are anxious to greet our students and do not want to be late because parents have utilized all the parking spaces.

  • Model traffic safety by staying in your car and not moving traffic cones.

After a long day of instruction, your child(ren) miss you. Please make arrangements to pick students up by the time school is dismissed at 3:20 p.m. If students have to wait for more than 20 minutes to get picked up, they may begin to feel scared or anxious. Nothing is worse than being the last kid at school.

  •  If your child is a car rider, please pick them up at their youngest siblings’ dismissal area.

  • The front of the building is the pick-up area for PK - 1st Grade car riders

  • 2nd - 5th grade car riders are picked up in the rear.

  • Walkers are escorted by teachers to the side of the building facing Bruton Rd.

  • If your child is a walker, please do not pick them up at the front of the building because it makes it difficult for teachers to effectively ensure student safety if parents are walking up and taking kids from the line.

Thank you for being considerate to others and helping to ensure student safety!
