Sunset High School vs R. L. Turner, September 10, 2021

On Friday September 9th, Sunset HS played against R. L. Turner High School at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. Turner quickly scored two touchdowns to make it 14-0 in the first quarter with the Bison’s stalling on their first two drives. After a Turner fumble and Sunset recovery, things begin to change. Sunset slowly came back with several rushing plays and touchdown to make it 14-7, Turner lead. With less than 6 minutes left in the first half, and after two additional touchdowns by Turner, Sunset begin to rally back and fight to close the gap. At halftime, the score was 27-21 in favor of Turner, but the Mighty Bison’s would not give up.

After half time, Sunset came out of the break determined to score. Johnny Mendoza led the team down the field and scored a rushing touchdown. After a quick touchdown by Turner including a missed field goal, the mighty Bison’s went back to work and scored two additional touchdowns to make the score 42-33. After the game, Coach OJ stated “this was a total team effort, our kids fought hard”. With this win, the Bison’s improve to 3-0, which is their best record in over 20 years! Next week the Bisons face a 1-1 Woodrow Wilson team.
