District Accolades - 1/23/14

District Accolades From the January 23, 2014 Board Meeting

Congratulations to the Dallas ISD schools recently honored with the HealthierUS School Challenge award.
Sixty-five schools received the award sponsored by the USDA Food and Child Nutrition Service. Each school was chosen based on its efforts to: improve food quality, provide students with nutrition education, and offer physical education opportunities for students.

Fourth-grader Kayla O’Neal is the winner of the 2014 MLK Oratory competition.
She is a student at J.P. Starks Math, Science & Technology Vanguard. Kayla was among eight finalists competing for the coveted title. All the contestants should be commended.

Anne Frank Elementary received the top award in the Dallas Region, Stock Market Game.
Students in Mr. Jose Burboa’s class were honored as the top elementary investors in their efforts to increase the value of their $100,000 online virtual investment. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Hats off to Bethe Marie Lehman, a librarian at Soto Elementary, who was appointed to the Texas Bluebonnet Award Selection Committee.
Each year, the group is responsible, primarily, for choosing which books will be included as Texas Bluebonnet Award winners.
