District Accolades From the October 22, 2014 Board Meeting
Congratulations to Dallas ISD’s 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools:
Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy, Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Early College, Henry W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy, and the School of Business and Management at Townview.

This prestigious award is bestowed on the nation’s highest performing schools or those that are making significant strides in closing the achievement gap. Congratulations to the students, staff, and parents of these schools.

Students at the School of Science and Engineering swept the competition at a recent UIL event
Sixteen students from SEM won every category at the UIL Princeton Fall Classic on Oct. 5. Categories included: number sense, calculator applications, mathematics, science, and current events.

Congratulations to the students who are in the running to receive distinguished national scholarship awards
Twenty-two students from TAG, SEM, and Booker T. Washington have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program and the National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Also, Abigail Cartwright, a 2014 graduate from TAG, was recognized as the Texas AP State Scholar. This prestigious award is given to one male and one female student each year who had the highest average score on the highest number of AP exams taken during their entire high school career in the state of Texas. She is now a student at Rice University.

Skyline High School students win annual competition
Kudos to Skyline High School’s drumline, drill team, cheerleaders, and drum major who won first place in the annual Extreme Battle of the Bands competition sponsored in late Sept. by Williams Chicken. The students took top honors at the event under the direction of band director, William Young.

Booker T. Washington students perform at the Winspear
Eight students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts recently performed by invitation with the popular musicians, the Piano Guys, at a concert at the Winspear Opera House in the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Congratulations to the students and B-T-W orchestra Director David Large.
